The Beauty of a Hand Cast

20th March 2019

Here at Image Casting, we spend a lot of time with the delicate hands of babies, and whether they are approaching their first birthday or are just a few weeks old; there’s something undeniably captivating about such tiny fingers and hands. We’ve decided to delve a little deeper into just what it is about a baby’s hand that makes it so special, and why a sculpture of such tiny, cute hands makes such a fabulous baby keepsake.

A hand cast is a great baby keepsake to invest in, and can be displayed with pride. Baby hands change as quickly as they grow, and in the space of just a couple of months it can be almost impossible to remember how little they once were and recalling those tiny, chubby hands in yours can seem like a very distant memory. One of the best ways of capturing  what that was really like is through a real-life hand cast, which takes just moments to prepare, but creates a lifetime of memories that provide perspective of what they were really like.

Whether you are a new parent looking for the best way to cherish the memory of your new-born baby, or you are a doting god-parent or family friend looking for the ultimate gift to commemorate a new arrival, a baby hand cast is the perfect answer. The detailed 3D replica of the baby’s hands picks out everything, from the tiny, delicate nails to the cute, chubby nature of the thumbs. Our intricate designs and expert craftsmanship means they capture the character of each hand perfectly, giving you a truly unique keepsake that you can treasure for years to come.

One of the best things we’ve found about creating casts of newborn hands is that every line, crease and fold is different to the next;  no two hands are identical  Fingerprints are unique to each person, meaning a personalised hand cast is one of the few things in this world that will be one-of-a-kind.  That said, each pair of hands has its own quirks, and you might be surprised to hear that we can often spot similarities and traits between sibling casts.

We also offer a range of holding hand casts, meaning parents, siblings and grandparents can get involved should you so wish. This provides the unusual opportunity to secure a physical keepsake that represents the bond between families, and makes for a meaningful centre piece or standalone sculpture in the family home. You can read more about the beauty of a holding hands cast in our blog section, or check out our Holding Hands page on the website for some examples.

Our hand casts are set in bronze or aluminium resin and can be personalised as per your preference. If you live in the Greater London or Leeds areas, you can take advantage of our home casting service, where one of our passionate casting artists will visit you to take the mould for the baby hand cast in the comfort of your own home or you can visit our workshop in Clapham. If you live outside this area, don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requirements for an extra travel charge. Alternatively, you can order a home-casting kit for casting baby hands, with everything you need to take the mould yourself, before sending it to the workshop to be professionally crafted. Once the casts have been polished to perfection, they can be framed or left freestanding as a sculpture.
