Royal Baby Number 3: Name Revealed!

The birth of the first royal baby George was a worldwide event, and the nation could barely contain their excitement at the thought of a second, Princess Charlotte. So, when it was announced that a third bundle of joy was set to join the royal family in spring 2018, it’s not difficult to imagine the frenzy of speculation that followed! When the news first broke back last year, we were so excited and looked into the many facts, histories and traditions surrounding royal births. Below we’ve listed everything to know about the latest royal birth, including exactly how the events took place along with potential unique christening gifts that might be presented to our newest prince!

Royal baby name announced

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their new prince to the world on Monday 23rd April, St Georges Day. The latest addition to the royal family is younger brother to Charlotte and George, and was born at 11.01 on Monday, weighing 8lbs 7oz. Kate was admitted to hospital at approximately 6.00am to the Lindo Wing. There was already a small crowd gathered, some of which had camped outside the hospital for over two weeks in the hope to catch the first glimpse of the baby prince.

After a whirlwind of speculation as to the name choice for England’s youngest royal, the couple finally settled on Arthur. The babies full name is Louis Arthur Charles, and he will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge. The name was announced at 11.00am on Friday 27th April, 5 days after the young royal was born.

On Tuesday afternoon Prince Charles expressed that he and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are both “so pleased with the news”, adding “it is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.” Prince William joked with reporters following their first public appearance outside the hospital, claiming there was now ‘thrice the worry’ and told on-looking journalists that ‘we didn’t keep you waiting too long this time’. When asked how Prince George and Princess Charlotte felt about the new arrival, he said ‘They’re very happy. We’re delighted’ and on the subject of names, teased the crowds claiming that they would ‘find out soon enough’, and that ‘Jerry’ was a fine choice.

There were several points of discussion surrounding the most recent royal birth, with some causing quite the controversy on social media and the wider mass media, and experts commenting that the Duke’s body language means that they do not plan to have any more children is just the tip of the iceberg. One reporter referred to the new baby boy as a ‘Porker’ and there was much discussion about Prince Andrew, who has now slipped to 7th in line and is now free to marry whomever he may please, without needing permission from her majesty herself. One of the biggest talking points, however, was the immaculate presentation of Kate Middleton following the birth, as she waved and smiled for fans and photographers.

Those with an interest in the world of baby keepsakes will be wondering if Auntie Pippa will be arranging a similar christening

Silver hands and feet similar to the ones bought for Prince Georgepresent as she did for Prince George, back in 2013. Miss Middleton found the perfect, personalised baby keepsake that she could give the boy who had everything in the form of real life casts of his tiny hands and feet. This would have entailed 3 month-old George having his hands and feet cast in a mixture that would, in turn, create bespoke sculptures that are true to the size and shape of his hands and feet at that moment in time. This makes for a truly special keepsake that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge can treasure in their family home forever.

Granted, other babies might not be so difficult to buy for when it comes to christenings or naming ceremonies, but royal or not, a personalised baby cast is a fantastic gift to celebrate such a momentous occasion. Whether the bundle of joy is a family member, God Child or the baby of a close friend; parents will appreciate the thought and gesture behind baby hand and feet casting gifts in comparison to the more generic counterparts available on the high street. Here at Image Casting, all of our beautiful baby keepsakes are available in a variety of materials and can be framed or gifted as a standalone sculpture. We also offer miniature casts to make into perfect jewellery charms, cufflinks or keyrings for any occasion.
